Zaharaki: Reduced ticket to MMM and for students of Schools of Tourism Education

by

Students with disabilities, as well as children of large families, are entitled to a greater amount of discount or even a total exemption from ticket payment.

With reduced fare on public transportwill move the students of the Higher Schools of Tourism Education (ASTE) of the Ministry of Tourism, from the new academic year.

This is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism – in collaboration with the co-competent Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure & Transport – which is part of the wider strategy of the Ministry of Tourism to upgrade the Higher Schools of Tourism Education, with the improvement of student care.

The only condition for the reduced travel fee is student status. The discount applies to urban, long-distance and rail transport both in the city where the beneficiary is studying, and in the entire country.

The reduced ticket for ASTE students is valid throughout their studies – from September 1st to August 31st – and can be extended by two academic years (until the degree is obtained). It is interrupted, however, during the period of the student’s military service, suspension or interruption of his studies.

Students with disabilities, as well as children of large families, are entitled to a greater amount of discount or even a total exemption from ticket payment.

The conditions, the type and the limits of the percentage of the exemption for each category are defined in the relevant KYA.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism responsible for Tourism Education, Sophia Zacharakis stated: “We stand, in practice, next to our ASTE students and respond to their request. With the signing of the Joint Ministerial Decision, I am pleased to announce that, with the new academic year, our students in Rhodes and Agios Nikolaos will pay a reduced fare for their travel by public transport for the duration of the program of their studies.

This initiative that we took together with the Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilia, follows the implementation of the commitment of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to provide a housing allowance – for the first time – to the students of all the IEK of the Ministry of Tourism. In this difficult time, we listen to the needs of our students and their families, strengthen their income and reduce – with targeted interventions – the cost of living for our young men and women who study away from their permanent residence.

For our part, we will continue to upgrade tourism education even more, but also to support our students, improving the study conditions of our programs with further student welfare benefits.
