The specific station will be operational at the end of 2023 and the metro, on the main line, will be put into commercial operation at the end of 2023.
The course of construction works of the multipath Venizelos Station, Thessaloniki Metrorefutes the Kassandras who persist in questioning the repeated assurances that this particular station will be operationally ready at the end of 2023 and that the metro, on the main line, will be put into commercial operation at the end of 2023.
The good news, which GRTimes.gr was informed by an authoritative source, is that the construction of the plaque on Level -2, i.e. the level where the ticket offices will be located, is currently progressing. That is, in less than 20 days from the departure of the Archeology crews, the excavation was done from Level 0, to -2 and the construction of the slab has already begun.
It should be noted that on Level -1 the ancients that were temporarily detached from the station pit will be re-placed. On Level -3 will be the station’s A/C systems and, on Level -4, will be the docks.
From the moment, end of July, that was completed archaeological research in the pit of the main station (research continues in the areas of the northern and southern access), construction works are “running at full speed”. Excavation on Level -2 began in August and in this phase, iron reinforcement is placed to make the concreting. At this rate of work, Level -2 will be ready, the slab will have fallen, at the end of August or beginning of September and, definitely, before the TIF and the arrival of Mitsotakis in Thessaloniki.
It should be noted that together with the construction of the slab, the iron supports for the construction of the walls are also placed.
The construction of the station will be completed by April 2023 and work will continue on the two approaches. At this stage, the archaeological research continues in the two accesses, with crews working in two shifts. The archaeological survey is expected to be completed, in the South Access, in October 2022, at which time its construction will be delayed until the spring of 2023. In the North Access, the archaeological excavation will be completed by January 2023 and the construction by the middle of year.
As far as the archaeological research is concerned, it should be noted that the related works, which also concerned the temporary removal of the antiquities and their transport, were carried out at an extremely fast pace as they had restarted last August and were completed, in the station section, only in in 12 months.
For the start of commercial operation of the Metro at the end of 2023, the construction of the shell and Level-4 should be completed, as well as the scheduled test routes with the wires for 7-8 months, so that can trains run from the east end and New Switzerland, to the Railway Station and back. Boarding and disembarking of passengers at Venizelos Station will begin after the architectural works have been completed.
The goal of Attiko Metro S.A. is, by March-April 2023, for the construction of the Station to be finished, for the electromechanical systems to be installed, so that test routes can begin.
In the meantime, the works of the railway infrastructure were essentially finished two weeks ago and in the Kalamaria Extension, while for about a year now test routes have been running with the wires that have been received and are being stored in the depot.
It is recalled that according to Attiko Metro S.A. and repeated assurances from the competent Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Kalamaria Extension will be put into operation, six months after the Basic Metro Line, i.e. in the summer of 2024.
