The improvement and upgrading of the road network, in Leoforo Athens-Souniou, continues from the Region of Attica, with the completion – so far – of the section from Vouliagmeni and its small ports to Varkiza. As part of the works, the worn road surface was replaced with anti-slip and silent running, new signs and low-consumption and high-efficiency lighting were installed along the entire length of the route from the center of Athens to Sounio.

The interventions are part of the broader project of upgrading the lighting and saving energy of the central road axes by the Region of Attica, with a total budget of 37 million euros, which is in progress and is being completed at a rapid pace, as emphasized in a relevant announcement of the Region of Attica.

At the same time, the region, in the context of improving road safety, has carried out additional interventions on the coast, such as dealing with the rock detachment in the Karamanli Tunnels, but also the short-term road safety measures at the “Eucalypta” location at the 44th km of the Varkiza – Souni road .

The regional governor of Attica G. Patoulis points out:

“The coastal boulevard is changing its face. It is becoming a modern, safe and functional road, as we had promised. With safety in mind, on an avenue with a heavy traffic load, especially during the tourist season, we proceeded with upgrading and modernizing the road network, which had not been done for many years. The protection of citizens’ lives is a non-negotiable value for us, and in this direction we will continue to work, without delay.”
