A dolphin was found dead in Halkidiki

The dead dolphin was not abused, nor was it decomposing. – He was buried in a spot that exists for such cases near Nea Triglia.

A dolphin was spotted by bathers in Nea Playia, Halkidiki, swimming close to the shore. When they approached the spot, they found it dead.

The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, reports GrTimes, when the beach was full of people.

After a while, men from the port of Nea Moudania arrived at the spot where the dead dolphin was found, where they informed the responsible deputy mayor of Kathariot about the incident.

The dead dolphin was collected on Sunday morning.

According to GRTimes.gr, the deputy mayor of the Municipal Unit of Triglia of the Municipality of Nea Propontida, Yiannis Karapantazis, was informed by the port authority at 9 pm on Saturday (20/8).

“We collected it today (Sunday 21/8) at 8 am, with a municipal machine and a worker,” Mr. Karapantazis reports to GRTimes.gr, clarifying that following an order from the port department, “we help in such cases.”

According to GRTimes.gr, the dead dolphin was not abused, nor in decay. According to estimates, it was a little longer than one meter and weighed about 60 kilograms. The dolphin was buried in a spot that exists for such occasions near Nea Triglia.

As the deputy mayor of the Triglia Municipal Unit of the Nea Propontida municipality Yiannis Karapantazis states, “in my eight years in office, such an incident with a dead dolphin has happened to me two more times”.
