Refreshing and extremely flavorful, Raita is the ideal contrasting condiment for any spicy main.

Packed with crunchy cucumber, spices and lots of herbs, this yogurt dip elevates any dish it’s paired with. Best of all? It’s an easy healthy side dish that’s ready in less than 10 minutes.

The Indian side dish is made to complement spicy dishes. The creamy yogurt and cucumber are cooling and balance the flavors from the hot flavors.

Before serving, let it sit in the fridge for a few minutes and the flavors and aromas will blend. If you have warm bread you’ve got another 10 points in enjoyment.

What you will need:

  • 1 1/2 c. yoghurt
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp. fresh ginger finely grated
  • 1/2 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. garam masala, plus for serving
  • Salt
  • 1 cucumber, coarsely grated
  • 1/4 c. fresh coriander, chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh mint, chopped, plus for serving
  • Warm bread or pies, to serve

How to make it:

In a bowl, whisk together the yogurt, lime juice, ginger, garlic, cumin, garam masala, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Stir in the cucumber, cilantro and mint until combined.

Sprinkle with additional mint and garam masala if desired and serve with warm bread or baked pies.
