The severely injured donkey who was abused by his owner, the deputy mayor of Zitsa, is fighting to stay alive while veterinarians and animal lovers are trying to take care of his wounds.

The claims of the retired vice-mayor Zitsa that the donkey fell from the cart are denied by eyewitnesses who saw the brutal abuse of the defenseless donkey, while complaints are pouring in that it was not the first time he abused an animal. In fact, his fellow villagers had seen him and had reported him, unfortunately to no avail.

In addition, as revealed to SKAI by a fellow resident of the Deputy Mayor and according to a photographic document, it appears that there was a 3-4 meter rope in the agricultural vehicle while the cart was full of things, which makes it impossible that the donkey was in the cart. Its owner, on the other hand, claims that he himself tried to save the donkey from a wolf bite.

The unfortunate animal is expected to be transported to Athens, in order for qualified equine doctors to examine it.

“A request for removal has been submitted and hopefully the donkey will be transferred as soon as possible to Megara Attica where it will receive all the care it deserves. We contacted a medical examiner and they informed us how to take a DNA sample from the blood on the asphalt and from the donkey in order to be 1000% sure”, reports the animal welfare group of Ioannina.

Animal-friendly equine protection centers are already expressing the desire to host the animal, while until now the unfortunate animal is still in the hands of its abuser.

With outrage over the unfortunate donkey overflowing, animal lovers and equine doctors are working together to keep the animal alive.
