Hatzidakis: We covered all the applications for the kindergartens – The reality refutes SYRIZA

Vouchers for almost 111,000 children – A total of 180,000 vouchers were given to infants, toddlers, primary school children and the disabled

His satisfaction with the coverage of all, without exception, the applications for the nurseries, which were made, with the granting voucher to 111,000 children, says the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, in a post on his personal social media account, noting at the same time that the SYRIZA tackled the issue of nurseries and KDAP, “in the usual climate of toxic opposition and endless falsehood that distinguishes him”.

However, as he clarifies, “a simple comparison of this year’s figures with the figures of his own period highlights a reality that no one can dispute!”.

The following is the full post of the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis:

“The nurseries were filled again this year with happy children’s faces and voices! And we feel great satisfaction that we covered all the applications, without exception, by granting vouchers to 111,000 children! This is the largest number of vouchers ever given, so that parents can find a place for their children in a nursery, either public or private! Because at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs we are determined to support new parents not with words, but with deeds!

In the last few days, SYRIZA tackled the issue of nurseries and KDAP, in the usual climate of toxic opposition and endless falsehood that distinguishes it. And all this while a simple comparison of this year’s figures with the figures of his own period highlights a reality that no one can dispute!

The budget this year was 333 million euros from 270 million euros in 2019. 180,000 vouchers were given in total for infants, toddlers, primary school children and disabled children, while in 2019 155,000 were given. For nurseries, as I mentioned above, 111,000 vouchers were given and, in fact, with increased income criteria, in contrast to 2019, when 84,000 were given. All 9,000 children with disabilities who requested it were covered for the KDAP with disabilities, without income criteria, while in 2019 only 4,500 were covered! As for KDAP, the beneficiaries remained the same as last year, i.e. 60,000.

Well, there was no reduction, despite what SYRIZA said to the contrary, and, of course, in addition to the KDAP vouchers, there is another measure that the Ministry of Labor finances by 50%: the extension of all-day primary school until 5:30 , which can cover tens of thousands of Greek families both in Athens and the Region. It covers the same needs and the same families as KDAP. This may not fully satisfy the owners of some KDAP of course, but it meets the families and their needs and that is ultimately the point. The question is not the owners of the KDAP, but the father, the mother and the children.

At the same time, we are moving forward with a series of measures that also aim at reconciling the professional and family life of employees: The “Neighborhood Babysitters” Program, the creation of 120 child care spaces within large companies and the creation of many new and modern nurseries.

So, on the occasion of the opening of the nursery schools, I went today to the 8th Nursery School of Galatsi, where I had the pleasure of seeing the facilities up close and talking to the staff. They are really doing a very good job and deserve many congratulations to the mayor Giorgos Markopoulos, the president of the Social Protection and Solidarity Organization of the Municipality of Galatsi, Yiannis Maniatis, the director Panagiota Ragou, but also to all the staff.”
