Drivers engage in aggressive driving behaviors including speeding, changing lanes frequently, or becoming angry while driving
Speeding is a type of aggressive driving behavior and there are several factors that influence it. Analysis by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) points out that traffic congestion is one of the most commonly cited contributing factors to aggressive driving.
Drivers can adopt it by using aggressive driving behaviors, including speeding, changing lanes frequently, or getting angry while driving, which effectively prevents them from driving properly and safely.
Some people drive aggressively because they have too much to do in a short amount of time, or because they are “late” to their work or on their date resulting in them driving fast falling into a series of driving offences. Also the character of the driver can “urge” him to drive fast.
On the other hand, a car can isolate a driver from the environment and the world. Protected from the external environment, a driver can become an observer of his environment, rather than an active participant in it, contributing the maximum to safety.
Most motorists rarely drive aggressively and some never do. For others, however, aggressive driving is a frequent phenomenon and for a small percentage of motorists it is their usual driving behavior. Occasional incidents of aggressive driving, such as speeding and sudden lane changes, may occur in response to certain situations, such as when a driver is late for an important appointment, but it is not their normal behavior.
What is evident is that there are more cases of rude and outrageous behavior on the road today than in the past, at the same time that drivers today are driving more kilometers than in the past.
To address dangerous behavior on the roads, the National Road Safety Agency suggests defining the relationship between speed and safety, implementing road design and engineering measures to achieve appropriate speeds, defining speed limits that are safe for all vehicles, implementing enforcement efforts and appropriate technology that are effectively aimed at reducing speed and the display of safety-related media communications while driving.
