“Scale”: More than 500 people commit suicide each year in the country

by

95% of suicides could have been prevented, reports “Klimaka” on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day.

September 10 has been established as World Suicide Prevention Day.

“Suicide can be prevented.” This is the main message of World Suicide Prevention Day, in order to activate public opinion with the aim of informing and raising the awareness of the population in the fields of suicide prevention and self-destructive behaviors.

“It’s the Day that reminds governments that suicide should be a public health priority,” says Scale (Human and Social Capital Development Agency for Tackling Social Exclusion).

As “Klimaka” states in its announcement, “suicide is not a fatal event. 95% of suicides could have been prevented». He adds that “more than 500 people commit suicide every year in recent years in the countryaccording to official data, leaving behind at least 5,000 bereaved annually.

In fact, suicides are far more than are recorded while there is no data at all on non-lethal attempts, which are estimated to be 15-20 times more than recorded suicides.”

According to the data presented by the Agency, the 24-hour intervention line for suicide 1018 accepted 21,365 calls in 2021while the number of suicides shows a steady upward trend, according to the figures of the Suicide Observatory.

World Suicide Prevention Day – Creating hope through action

September 10th is Suicide Awareness Day for all people on earth, and given its establishment by the World Health Organization, it recognizes the global dimension of the issue and the fact that no one is immune to it. , reports “Klimaka”. He also notes that “this is also our Day, as members of the International Union for Suicide Prevention, who work in the field and strive to contribute to awareness, worldwide, of the magnitude and stigma of this enormous pain. The World Day highlights the responsibility we all have to help save lives at risk. We can do it.”

It places particular emphasis on the preparation of a National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, noting that “the absence of a National Action Plan for Suicide Prevention and an integrated national strategy not only does not allow the alignment of the country’s public health policies with those of European states , but, above all, it perpetuates the misrecognition of suicide as a major public health issue (as foreseen in the relevant WHO guidelines since 1990), and makes it difficult for the overall upgrading of national mental health services.
