They erase and write – according to the favorite journalistic cliché – at the Ministry of Energy in order to come up with the mechanism through which the subsidization of the bills will continue electricity. The new mechanism that will be implemented from October will have new features but the same perimeter.

In other words, the government assures that the subsidy will continue for all, regardless of their income, even for their second residence.

What changes is that the subsidy will be given depending on consumption. The benefits will be divided into stairs depending on the energy they consume and each tier will include a range of consumption, say the 1st tier up to 300Kwh, the 2nd from 300Kwh to 600Kwh and so on depending on the number of tiers to be selected. It goes without saying that lower consumption means higher subsidy.

The subsidy is also not expected to be the same every month as the price of natural gas has huge fluctuations even within the same day. So every month updated subsidies of the tiers will be announced depending on the course of the price of natural gas.

At the same time another is introduced subsidy bonus for those who achieve energy savings compared to last year. The information so far says that the bonus will be given in cases of savings of 15%. Among the scenarios being considered is the bonus to be given to be ‘promoted’ to the next subsidy scale.

In a 3 tier scenario for example, if a consumption base household is placed in the tier with the lowest subsidy, the 3rd, to eventually receive the subsidy of the next tier, the 2nd, if it achieves the savings target.

It should be emphasized that if someone does not achieve the 15% saving target or achieves a lower percentage they are NOT excluded from the subsidy, they will simply receive the subsidy of the tier in which they are placed.

However, it is being considered that if someone increases their consumption compared to last year, then the amount of the subsidy should be reduced. Of course, if this scenario goes ahead, other parameters that may increase consumption must be considered, such as someone who was single at 21 and got married in the interim or even had children.

The mechanism with all its details is expected to be unveiled by the Minister of Energy probably on Wednesday.
