Presentation on how she succeeded THE GREEK POLICE to reach the tracks of a criminal group he cultivated mammoth plantation of cannabis seedlings in a difficult mountainous area of ​​eastern Olympus, took place today in the “P. Bakoyannis” of the Ministry of Citizen Protection.
In particular, in the context of a coordinated police operation carried out on September 15, 2022, five “plantations”, with a total of 5,052 cannabis seedlings, were located in an inaccessible mountainous area of ​​eastern Olympus, in the Ano Skotina area of ​​the Municipality of Dion-Olympus Pieria.
The General Regional Police Director of Thessaly, Lieutenant General Asterios Mantziokas, emphasized that it was a very difficult case, which the authorities began to investigate after receiving information about a criminal group cultivating drugs in Olympos.
As he said, police teams were organized and began to search Olympus, covering vast areas for about two months until they located the plantation.
According to Mr. Manziokas, during the operation, the about 120 police officers participants had to trek for about 2.5 hours to reach the plantations.
He emphasized that the total hemp harvest would amount to at least 11 tons, with the expected monetary benefit ranging from 30,000,000 to 40,000,000 euros.
For the case two foreigners were arrested (aged 31 and 47 years) and a criminal case was filed against them for violation of the drug legislation and the establishment of a criminal group, with the aim of illegal enrichment through the cultivation and trafficking of narcotic substances, while they were taken to the public prosecutor of Katerinis Plimmeliodiki and referred to an investigator.
According to ELAS, the perpetrators followed a specific methodology of action:
– The selection of the location and the arrangement of the plantations was carried out in such a way as to make their identification difficult and indistinct.
– There was an organized irrigation network, covering the entire area of ​​the plantations with the use of agricultural fertilizers and other related activities.
– They had configured a suitable space, which they used as a dryer-dryer for the plants, in order to immediately make it possible to further dispose of the quantities of cannabis.
– They lived in makeshift shacks, where household utensils, food, bedding and other objects were found that enabled the perpetrators to live there, while at the same time they had the opportunity to monitor the wider area, so as to perceive in time any approach of the prosecuting Authorities.
As part of the police operation, a total of 5,052 cannabis plants, up to 3 meters high, 21 kg and 626.5 grams of cannabis in tassels, a mobile phone with sim card, precision scales, wireless, 15,000 lek and 230 euros were seized, as well as various items are used in the cultivation of hemp.
It is noted that due to the difficult and steep terrain of the area, the transportation of the cannabis seedlings was carried out with the assistance of the Fire Brigade’s Aerial Vehicles Service.
The presentation was also attended by the head of the Hellenic Police, Lt. General Konstantinos Koumas, who pointed out: “The Hellenic Police once again showed its abilities in the fight against drugs and it is not only this success. Every day we find and you see that the Greek Police and its personnel have great successes in the fight against drugs”.
