Thessaloniki: Life sentence for the 50-year-old who murdered his wife in Polichni

Sentenced to life imprisonment and 3 years imprisonment by the Joint Jury 50 years oldwho last November hacked his 48-year-old wife to death with a hunting knifeinside their house, in Polichni, Thessaloniki, and then surrendered to the police, confessing to his heinous crime.

The Court, unanimously, found him guilty of manslaughter in a calm state of mind, illegal carrying of a weapon and use of a weapon. He did not appear in court, nor was he represented by a lawyer. Both during the preliminary investigation and during the investigation, he reportedly apologized that he did what he did because “his wife was cheating on him.”

Giving evidence in court, the couple’s son described his father as “violent man who practiced psychological and physical violence”. “We constantly had fights at home,” he said, while conveying to the judges a dialogue he had with the accused, when he asked him “why he did it”, he allegedly answered him as follows: “Because he stuck out his tongue at me. He knew very well what he was doing.” He added that the 50-year-old considered the wife – mother of the witness – to be his “property”.

According to the findings of the forensic examination, the unfortunate woman received 23 stab wounds in the chest, abdomen and limbs, while it seems that she fought for her life, as defensive wounds were found on her hands. The murder was revealed by the 50-year-old, originally from Armenia and with a history of hospitalization due to psychiatric problems, when he went to the A.T. White Tower, where he was delivered. Police officers went to his home and found the dead woman in a pool of blood in the bedroom.
