“Agia Sophia” Children’s Side: The problem of waiting for surgeries has existed since 2017

“The problem of a lack of anesthesiologists is being addressed with coordinated actions and not with communication exploitation” commented the Minister of Health.

“The problem of waiting for surgeries at the Hagia Sophia Children’s Hospital has been strong since 2017,” said the Minister of Health, Thanos Pleuris, in response to what the president of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, said earlier from the pediatric hospital.

Mr. Pleuris added: “In the midst of a pandemic and worsening of the problem of lack of anesthesiologists, we have proceeded with a set of measures to deal with the problem. Specifically, we decided:

– The announcement of Agia Sophia positions for anesthesiologists and other necessary positions on a priority basis

– Strengthening the hospital by moving anesthetists until the announcement is completed so that another operating theater position can operate.

– In consultation with the administration of the Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital, the redesign of the programming for the best possible service of the surgeries”.

And he concluded: “Mr. Tsipras visited the Children’s Hospital of Agia Sophia as the leader of the official opposition. However, for his information, the surgery waiting list that his government delivered in 2019 was 2,853 surgeries.
