It remains unknown what was said between the students and how some of the children ended up consuming the pills

An incredible event in a primary school in Patras. A 1st grade student found pills at home, took them to school in his bag and gave them to his classmates to try! According to a complaint made in the “Peloponnisos” newspaper, it is the Xozal pill which is an antihistamine for allergies and according to medical sources, among other things, it causes drowsiness!

A parent told “P” that at least two children who consumed more than one pill, went to the hospital mainly for preventive reasons, in case they needed a gastric lavage.

The incident happened yesterday morning and naturally some parents accused the parents of the particular child that they had not stored their medicinal preparations as prescribed, with the result that the child had easy “access”, took the boxes and carried them to his school .

It remains unknown what was said among the students and how some of the children were eventually convinced and consumed the pills.

How will you protect the children?

There are dozens of products and objects found in every home that can prove to be extremely dangerous, even for the life of a small child, in case of ingestion:

Medicines: From simple painkillers and antipyretics, to nutritional supplements and prescription drugs (psychiatric).

Even pediatric drugs can be dangerous if the child swallows an uncontrolled dosage.

The first and most necessary preventive measure they must take is the proper storage of dangerous substances and objects:

All medicines, household items and other dangerous products must be securely capped and kept in lockable cabinets at all times.

If the cabinet does not have a lock, you can add one of those available at baby safety stores.

Where possible, it is a good idea to store these products outside the home, also in a lockable cabinet.

Do not leave medicines in your bag! It’s one of the kids’ favorite spots to explore!

The same safety locks should be used on all low cabinets and drawers anyway.

What to do in case of an accident

If the child swallows something dangerous, it is important to stay calm so that you can help him

Call the child’s attending pediatrician and the Poison Control Center immediately

Give as much detailed information as possible about the substance or object the child has swallowed, the amount and the time that has passed since the ingestion.

If the child does not vomit on its own, do not attempt to induce vomiting unless instructed otherwise by a doctor.

At the hospital or doctor’s office, take the product packaging with you – and the leaflet if it is a medicine – as the information listed may be useful in treatment.
