The mystery of the shells at a construction site in Thessaloniki has been solved

by

It is assumed that the six shells that have been identified so far at the Leotos Sofos construction site come from an ammunition depot of the Second World War.

Another three shells, a total of six so far, were found at the construction site located on Leontos Sofou Street, in the center of Thessaloniki.

The owner and operator of the earthmoving machinery that performs work at the site, today found three more oxidized shells and once again all the necessary procedures were initiated to remove and neutralize them.

“I spotted one early in the morning at 8:00 am, one around 10:00 am and one shortly before 12 pm… There is no end to this…”, pointed out the owner and operator of earthmoving machinery Angelos Fratzidis, particularly worried, speaking at the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.

As he pointed out, “and the last shells found are identical to the previous ones, they are oxidized shells, 33 cm and 81 mm in diameter. since World War II. They are all located in the same place, which makes us believe that there must have been a warehouse with ammunition.”

“I am particularly worried because, as everything shows, there will definitely be others here. The army is constantly here supervising the work and undertakes to remove the shells we find,” he said.

On the specific construction site there was a three-story apartment building that was erected in 1954 and was demolished in 2004, according to residents and professionals in the area.
