Vans contribute €786 billion to the European economy

This amount exceeds the GDP of Norway, a country rich in oil and natural gas (€407.7 billion), while it is almost equivalent to that of Switzerland

THE Ford Proreveals after research carried out on its behalf that if Europe’s van-based businesses were a country, it would be the eighth largest in Europe based on Gross domestic Product (GDP).

Vans supported an estimated €786 billion in economic activity across Europe in 2021. This figure exceeds the GDP of oil and gas-rich Norway (€407.7 billion) and is almost equivalent to of Switzerland which is a well-known banking center and hub for luxury goods (802.8 billion euros).

According to the survey, which looked at the economic contribution of van-based businesses, Germany was the biggest market in Europe for activities related to these vehicles, with an estimated added value of almost €206 billion in 2021. Vans have contributed over €200 billion to the German economy in the past three years.

As many businesses have begun the transition from diesel to pure electric vehicles, the research showed that car van operators in Europe’s biggest markets directly contributed up to €15.3 billion to public coffers in 2021 through fuel taxation. In the United Kingdomwhich had the highest duty rate, van operators contributed €5.4 billion, accounting for almost a fifth of total fuel tax receipts.
