Corinth: Father and son were arrested for drug trafficking and antiquities theft

A large amount of cannabis exceeding 24 kg, weapons as well as ancient clay and copper vessels were found in their possession.

A large amount of cannabis, exceeding 24 kg, was found in the possession of a 70-year-old man and his 33-year-old son, who were arrested by the police in the Corinth area.

In particular, according to the police, after investigations carried out by police officers of the Sikyonia department, it emerged that the two arrested were active in the cultivation, harvesting, processing and trafficking of cannabis.

Subsequently, the police carried out searches in the house of the 70-year-old and the 33-year-old, as well as in a car, where quantities of cannabis were found, with a total weight of 24 kg and 149 grams, nine cannabis seedlings, cannabis seeds, with a total weight of 10 kg and 410 grams, as well as three precision scales.

Also found were a shotgun, a stun gun with a magazine, 140 cartridges of various types and calibers, 60 stun cartridges, two metal detectors, as well as 21 clay and copper vessels.

As announced by the police, the above vases, according to an archaeologist, date back to the classical, Hellenistic and early Byzantine periods and fall under the protective provisions of the legislation “for the Protection of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage in general” and will be handed over to the Ephorate of Antiquities Corinthia.

Those arrested will be taken to the District Attorney of Corinth, while the police continue to investigate the case.
