Amyras: No wind turbines in the burned Geraneia Mountains

by

“The area that burned was declared reforestable”, reminded the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Giorgos Amyras and added that “no installation permit has been issued”.

“In the burned areas of the Geraneia Mountains, no wind turbines will be installed or sited,” said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Giorgos Amyras, in response to a relevant topical question from MeRA25 MP, Kriton Arsenis. “The fact that a company receives a producer certificate from the RAE does not in any way mean that it will set up wind turbines,” said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy.

Previously, MeRA25 MP Kriton Arsenis said that while, after the devastating fire in Geraneia, the government pledged that “not even half of the wind turbines will be sited, let alone built”, permission was given to install a wind turbine in the burned areas.

“The area that burned was declared reforestable”, reminded the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Giorgos Amyras and added that “no installation permit has been issued”.

“There is no installation permit. Producer certificates have been issued by RAE. The manufacturer’s certificate has nothing to do with the installation permit. The Energy Regulatory Authority assures the investor that yes, there is a network there and capacity. That’s it,” said Mr. Amyras. He pointed out at the same time that “RAE’s judgment, regarding the zoning or not of the project, in no way binds the environmental authority which is responsible for the licensing”.
