What is it like to study at the same Institution with all the members of your family? The Rakintzis-Michelidakis family has the answer since they all study at the University of Crete.

The father, Mr. Stavros Rakintzis is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science of the School of Social Sciences, the mother, Mrs. Emilia Michelidakis, is a postgraduate student in Sociology, the son, Kostis, is in his 3rd year of studies at the Department of Political Science and the daughter, Irini, freshman in the Department of Philology.

The Foundation decided to honor all four members of the family, in the context of the event for the reception of the first-year students that took place on Wednesday, October 5 at French campus in Rethymnon.

Both Mr. Rakintzis and Mrs. Michelidaki are from Rethymnon. Mr. Rakintzis is a journalist, his first degree is European Culture in Greek open universityfollowed, at the age of 40, a master’s degree in Political Science and two years later began his PhD, which is currently being completed.

Ms. Michelidaki is in the press office of the mayor of Rethymno, her first degree is in Political Science at Panteio and now she is preparing a master’s degree in Sociology.

Mr. Rakintzis reports that the children had the first preference University of Crete, as they knew that this is one of the leading Institutions of the country. Thus, they followed in the footsteps of their parents and pass through the same spaces that they passed through.

Regarding their distinction from the Foundation, Mr. Rakintzis states that it was a recognition of their efforts. It is difficult at an advanced age to do scientific research, it is something that requires time and sacrifices, combined with family and professional obligations.
