On Sunday morning, Michalis Mourotsos published a touching text about the funeral of Alexandros Nikolaidis.
The fellow athlete and friend of Alexandros Nikolaidis, Michalis Mouroutsos, was the one who carried his medals at the funeral of the Olympian. As he requested these medals will be auctioned and the proceeds will go to foundations. His wife Dora Tsambazi has already announced that part of the proceeds collected from the auction will be given to help the flood victims of yesterday’s deadly bad weather in Crete.
On Sunday morning, Michalis Mourotsos published a touching text about the funeral of Alexandros Nikolaidis.
After all, this was one of his last wishes.
“I still can’t realize that we came yesterday, so many people to say our last goodbye. I want you to know that it was a great honor for me to hold your Olympic medals accompanied by our friends and Olympians, Areti Athanasopoulou and Elli Mystakidou. My legs were shaking and my hands were cut. I imagine the girls would feel something similar. The weight of these medals is great. It reminded me how much effort, pain, time and sweat you have sacrificed to raise our Greece high. I hope you smiled when you saw us. We are very proud of you. And I’m not just talking about your discrimination. I’m mainly talking about the life attitude you had and the legacy you leave behind. I bow to the greatness of your soul. I don’t know if there are walls up there in heaven to break down…but I’m sure the angel neighborhood will open the doors wide for a wonderful person to walk through.”
