The intervention of the National Radio and Television Council is requested in a letter to the president of the ESR by the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Yannis Oikonomou, due to the “extreme situation” in the media at the expense of victims, especially children, with the circulation of videos and information of a sexual nature.
In his letter, Mr. Economou states that “we consider the immediate and priority intervention of your Council to be an absolute necessity”.
The entire letter:
“Recently, we have all become part of an extreme situation at the expense of victims, especially children, with the circulation of videos and information of a sexual nature from television and radio stations and websites.
There is a question of ethics but also of a violation of the existing regulatory framework for the protection of youth, as determined in particular by article 15 par. 2 of the Constitution, law 2101/1992 which ratified the International Convention on the Rights of the Child, article 9 of Law 4479/2021, which incorporated Directive 2010/13 of the European Parliament and of the Council and Article 10 of 77/2003 concerning the code of ethics of news and other journalistic and political broadcasts.
Following this, we consider the immediate and priority intervention of your Council to be an absolute necessity, based on the authority granted to you by article 15 par. 2 of the Constitution, law 2863/2000 and other relevant legislation”.
