He was distinguished for his talent in Byzantine music
The Elder Daniel of the Brotherhood of the Daniels of Mount Athos has fallen asleep at the age of 91. Grandson and namesake of Saint Daniel, of Katunakiot, he fought in the desert and followed faithfully in the footsteps of him, who was the exponent of the self-consciousness of Mount Athos.
He was distinguished for his talent in Byzantine music as he was one of the most important cantors of Mount Athos.
The blessed Elder was born (1931) in Paleochori Kavala (born Vassilios Grandikis).
He was found on Mount Athos at a young age (1949), in the Brotherhood of Daniel, in the Skete of Little Saint Anne, where he became a monk (1952).
He studied under the caliphon musicians and chanters of the Brotherhood, Elders Daniel and Gerontius, who had already been practicing chanting for half a century.
He himself sang throughout his life at the great Saint Vigils and Festivals of the Cells and the Monasteries (but also outside Mount Athos) alone or with the other chanting accompaniment of the Daniels (fathers Grigorios, Stefanos and Akakios).
