The need for vigilance and continuous strengthening of the armed forces, in order to ensure the sovereignty and sovereign rights of the country, given that the security situation is volatile and the challenges are escalating in our immediate and wider geopolitical environment, the Minister of National Defense points out, Nikolaos Panagiotopouloson his agenda on the occasion of the national anniversary of October 28, 1940.
In this context, he observes, the government and the Ministry of National Defense set as a strategic goal the armoring of our homeland, which is done through:
- the upgrading of our weapon systems as well as the maintenance of existing ones,
- the reinforcement of the personnel of the Armed Forces and
- the deepening of relations and the expansion of Greece’s alliances, through the channels of defense diplomacy.
“Our country is shielded defensively and deterrently. It defends national interests, respecting the Principles of International Law and is a factor of peace, security and stability, at a time when fragile balances have been formed in the geopolitical space of the Eastern Mediterranean”, he assures.
Therefore, he further adds, “the timeless commitment of the Armed Forces to be the guardian of the territorial integrity and national independence of the Country is realized. A commitment, a sacred obligation, to our ancestors and to future generations, which the Armed Forces fully fulfill on a daily basis.”
Mr. Panagiotopoulos congratulated the officers of the Armed Forces for the effort they make to defend our national sovereignty and for their assistance in the social contribution of the Armed Forces, he reiterates that “they are the power multiplier that makes the Armed Forces the most impregnable pillar national strength of our country” and urges them to continue to carry out their mission “with the same zeal, dedication and spirit of victory, defending our national interests”.
