The H.A.S headquarters draws the attention of the citizens as the efforts of fraudsters continue in order to deceive unsuspecting citizens by using the details of officials of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Hellenic Police.
Now the perpetrators in their attempt to deceive internet users are using the details of the Inspector General of the Police of Southern Greece, Lieutenant General Georgios Kanellos, in a letter bearing the logos of the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime, the Ministry of Justice and an information website, trying to create the impression that it comes from by the Greek Police.
In this context, it is announced that the text-message in question circulated via email, purporting to be a letter from the Inspector General of the Police of Southern Greece, is clearly forged and fraudulent.
This particular message, as ELAS points out, as well as others like it, are sent by perpetrators who are obviously trying to deceive – mislead the citizens and then obtain an illegal financial benefit.
In addition, ELAS appeals to citizens not to respond and to delete the specific message as well as “not to open” the attached files to avoid being infected by malicious software.
The Police note that in the last period of time, a systematic attempt to deceive has been detected with similar texts – messages using the details of officials of the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police.
It is recalled that more tips to avoid defrauding citizens are posted on the website of the Hellenic Police (www.hellenicpolice.gr), in the “Citizen’s Guide / Useful tips” section, while additional information and tips on incidents of electronic fraud are available on the Directorate’s website Electronic Crime Prosecution www.cyberalert.gr.
