Visits of the Dutch royal couple to schools and structures for unaccompanied children

Afterwards, the King of the Netherlands together with Mr. Mitarakis visited the shelter for unaccompanied minors “Nisos” in Kypseli, where children from an orphanage in Ukraine are accommodated.

The royal couple of the Netherlands made a series of visits to schools and structures where unaccompanied children are accommodated. According to a relevant announcement by the Greek Ministry, the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, and the Queen, Maxima, accompanied by the Minister of Immigration, Noti Mitarakis and the Minister of Education and Religion, Niki Kerameos, visited the 2nd General High School of Athens, where they study unaccompanied children.

Then they attended a concert organized by the Greek-Dutch NGO “Connect by Music”.

Afterwards, the King of the Netherlands together with Mr. Mitarakis visited the shelter for unaccompanied minors “Nisos” in Kypseli, where children from an orphanage in Ukraine are accommodated.

In his statement, the Minister of Immigration stated that “the Netherlands finances hospitality structures in our country and has helped Greece in dealing with an unprecedented immigration crisis in recent years” adding that “the solution to the immigration issue requires common European solutions”.

At the same time, the Queen of the Netherlands, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Sofia Wultepsi, and the Dutch Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare, Maarten van Oychen, visited a hostel for girls and young mothers in Dafni. He talked to young girls staying there and was informed by Ms. Voultepsi for the accommodation program for unaccompanied minors.

As indicated in the ministry’s announcement, the Queen of the Netherlands expressed her satisfaction with the effort to integrate minors, showing particular interest in their path after reaching adulthood.

It is noted that Greece and the Netherlands cooperate closely on all issues of protection of unaccompanied minors and participate in joint programs.
