Plakiotakis: More than 200 million euros were secured by the NSRF for the upgrading of the ports

“From the new NSRF as well as the Recovery Fund, we secured over 200 million euros for the upgrade of the port infrastructures”, emphasized the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Yiannis Plakiotakis.

Funds for the upgrading of the country’s port infrastructures and their interconnection with the cruise industry through the development of sustainable and energy-green land support infrastructures, announced the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Yiannis Plakiotakis during his participation in the “experience tourism” conference – RouteLab in Pyrgos.

“From the new NSRF as well as the Recovery Fund, we secured over 200 million euros for the upgrade of the port infrastructure”, Mr. Plakiotakis emphasized, adding that the ministry has already started the project of digital transformation of the provided port services with the aim of strengthening of the cruise industry.

“The strategic choice of the government to utilize the regional port infrastructures and to create suitable terrain for the cruise proved to be correct in practice,” said Mr. Plakiotakis. Based on the data provided by the Minister of Shipping, the cruise this year will exceed in arrivals in 2019, reaching 4,500, attributing this number to the correct strategic manipulations during the pandemic period.

“The outlook already shows 10% more cruise ship arrivals for 2023,” noted Mr. Plakiotakis. Speaking about “tomorrow”, the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy announced the creation of green infrastructure in the ports, in order to reduce the carbon “footprint” of the sector’s activity, stressing that he is proud that Greece is leading the way on a global level.
