Opinion – Jorge Abrahão: A group of Brazilian geniuses foresaw the future: they already knew!

by

Machado de Assis, with his fine irony, said:

“Listen to this advice: in politics, nothing is forgiven or forgotten.”

And Drummond called us to go together:

“I will not be the poet of a decrepit world
Nor will I sing of the future world
I’m stuck to life and I look at my companions
They are taciturn but have high hopes
Among them, I consider the enormous reality
The present is so great, let’s not stray
Let’s not go too far, let’s go hand in hand.”

Manuel Bandeira alerted us to injustices:

“I saw an animal yesterday
In the filth of the yard
Gathering food among the debris.
When I found something,
Did not examine or smell:
It swallowed voraciously.
The animal was not a dog,
It wasn’t a cat
It wasn’t a mouse.
The beast, my God, was a man.”

Meanwhile, Chico Buarque stated:

“Although you
tomorrow must be
Other day
I ask you
where will you hide
From the huge euphoria
How will you ban
When the rooster insists
in singing
new water sprouting
And people loving each other
Nonstop.”

And completed:

“Will pass
On this avenue a samba
Popular
each cobblestone
from the old town
tonight goes
shiver
when remembering
that passed here
immortal sambas
That here bled by the
our feet
that samba here
Our ancestors.”

That’s when Caetano sang:

“While men exercise their rotten powers
To die and to kill of hunger, of rage and of thirst
There are so many natural gestures
I want to approach my bum singing
Of those who watch over the joy of the world
Going deeper and deeper, tins and goods and such.”

And Aldir Blanc spoke with time:

“And time gnaws at me with envy
watch me wanting to learn
how i die of love
To try to revive

Deep down is an eternal child
who didn’t know how to mature
I can, he won’t
Forget me”

Then David Kopenawa warned us:

“We are apprehensive, in addition to our own lives, with that of the whole earth, which is in danger of falling into chaos. Whites are not afraid, as we are, of being crushed by the fall of the sky. But one day they may be as afraid of it as we are. !”

And Krenak said:

“Everyone had to arm themselves with the voter registration card and put a stop to it, from the electoral point of view, so redundant that it would leave no doubt to this ignorant right that it is wrong. We had to try to do this through the what they call democracy, so that we can test our ability to mobilize”

Finally, Adelia Prado:

“When I was little, I didn’t understand my mother’s cry when watching a movie, listening to a song or reading a book. What I didn’t know is that my mother didn’t cry for the visible things. She cried for the eternity she lived inside. her and which I, in my childhood, was unable to understand.

Time has passed and today I get emotional in front of the same things, touched by small everyday miracles. It is that memory is contrary to time. While time takes life away like the wind, memory brings back what really matters, immortalizing moments.”

Fragments that move. And to think that so many other Brazilian geniuses could be cited. If there is an ancestry, and there is, it accompanies us and celebrates with us this moment that we live in the country. If we resisted, therefore, it was because we also looked to our ancestors and artists for the strength for this major victory.

Together, they warned us, encouraged us to criticize, taught us to resist with affection and, now, we managed to overcome the greatest risk we had in the history of the country.

The victory of democracy, embodied in Lula, was no small thing. It was an act of resistance and capital bravery of the population, in a disproportionate dispute: the opponent used all the low blows and committed all the illegalities to try to win, but a fierce majority stood firm. After being subjected to the stress of democracy, everything happened like when we came out of a long tunnel: the feeling is of broadening horizons, of airing, of breathing again.

Time for celebration and relief. And of acknowledgment, plagiarizing Drummond:

“I shouldn’t say
But if it wasn’t for John,
Ribeiro, the professor with ‘P’
None of that would be possible.”

There are many challenges ahead and the fiber of this group will continue to guide us. “And speaking of passion, the reason for living”, as Vinicius de Moraes used to say, a new year is approaching!
