Professional drivers who have a valid driving license for categories BE, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE are able to apply digitally – Detailed process on the relevant platform

Through gov.gr, with a particularly simple process, professional drivers can now issue, renew and replace the card Driver’s Digital Tachograph. In particular, professional drivers who have a valid driving license for categories ΒΕ, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE can apply digitally for the following cases:

  • Initial card issue
  • Card renewal
  • Card replacement due to loss
  • Card replacement due to theft

The new electronic service was implemented within the framework of the National Program for the Simplification of Procedures by the General Secretariat of Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures of the Ministry of Digital Governance, in implementation of the program agreement signed by the co-competent Ministries for the digital transformation of the Transport sector of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. It is accessible either directly at tacho-cards.services.gov.gr, or via gov.gr, in the “Business activity” section and the subsection. “Licensing” and in the “Transportation” sector. Using the platform is very simple:

  1. Professional drivers log into the platform using their Taxisnet passwords.
  2. Then, they complete their application, attaching their photo and sample signature
  3. The process is completed with the issuance and payment of the appropriate electronic receipt.
  4. Once the application has been processed, interested parties are notified to collect the Digital Tachograph Card in person or through an authorized person, from the Transport and Communications Service of the regional unit they will choose.

The platform also allows anyone who submits an application to track their progress. In this way, a particularly important interaction of professional drivers with the State is simplified, avoiding unnecessary visits in person and drastically reducing bureaucracy.

It is noted that since 2006 all new trucks and buses circulating in the European Union are compulsorily equipped with a digital tachograph. On an annual basis, more than 20,000 Digital Driver Tachograph cards are issued in Greece. The digital tachograph driver card is necessary for the driver to use the vehicle. In addition, the digital tachograph card acts as an identification document for drivers at pan-European level and through it it is possible to store data that ensure road safety such as: driving and rest times, vehicle speed and distance travelled.
