MEPs approved almost €720 million in aid from the EU Solidarity Fund following natural disasters in seven EU countries in 2021, the EP statement said. Among them is Greece for the devastating earthquake in Heraklion, Crete, with one dead, in September 2021
In particular, the aid amounting to 718.5 million euros from the European Union Solidarity Fund will be distributed as follows:
In relation to the catastrophic floods in July 2021, €612.6 million for Germany, €87.7 million for Belgium, €4.7 million for the Netherlands, €797,520 for Austria, 1.8 million euros for Luxembourg.
For the eruption of the volcano in La Palma, Spain, 9.5 million euros.
Greece will receive 1.4 million euros for the 6 Richter earthquake in Crete.
The aid package was approved by MEPs with 30 votes in favour, none against and no abstentions.
