The Court found him guilty of the charge of manslaughter but also of the bodily harm to his mother and younger sister

The guilt of the accused, an itinerant fisherman, was decided earlier today by the Second Three-member Criminal Court of Heraklion for the terrible accident, with the victim of a 7-year-old angel, in June 2018 in Messara. The incident unfolded after a traffic accident in which the mother of the unfortunate child was involved. The fatal vehicle was occupied by the mother and her two minor daughters, aged 4 and 7.

The Court found him guilty of the charge of manslaughter but also of the bodily harm to his mother and younger sister and imposed a total sentence of 3 years and ten months in prison, with the appeal having suspensive effect.

The family of the 7-year-old girl, who is still struggling to manage the mourning of the loss, expressed satisfaction with the sentencing decision. On the defendant’s side, an appeal was filed against the first instance decision.

According to the defense lawyer, Mr. Evripidis Koukiadakis, his client clearly expresses his sorrow for the accident, but insists that he was not at fault in the traffic accident, while they completely deny that he was in a state of intoxication, as attributed to him by the experts , with a measurement of 2.7.

He even claimed that the court partially vindicated his principal on the disputed element, that is, of drunkenness. “Justice decides based on what witnesses and experts contribute. In this case, the experts are responsible for the error,” he said.
