The Ministry of Justice is reportedly considering tightening the legislation on offenses related to the illegal distribution and trafficking, through the internet or other means, of sensitive personal data on the personal life of citizens.

In the aftermath of the case that came to light and has shocked public opinion, with the activity of the presenter Stathis Panagiotopoulos, of “Radio Arvylas”, who published photos and videos with personal moments of his ex-partner, the Ministry of Justice is considering the upgrade the criminal characterization of the act as a felony and consequently the increase of the threatened sentence.

In fact, according to the same sources, there will be a special aggravating circumstance, when the act is directed against a minor in the context of the general protection of minors and socially vulnerable groups, for which it is considered that protection should be increased and punishment of perpetrators more severe.

The current legislation in this crime, with few exceptions, is prosecuted to a degree of misdemeanor and the criminal prosecution requires the initiative of the victim, ie the filing of a lawsuit, as has been done in the case of Stathis Panagiotopoulos, whom the victim sued two years ago and The case is expected to be heard in mid-February, as adjournments were adjourned due to the non-functioning of the courts during the restrictive measures for the pandemic.
