Theodorikakos on the “Refugees” operation: “For us there are no excuses against the law”

by

“The message is that there can be no tolerance for centers of lawlessness and delinquency”, pointed out the Minister of Protection, referring to the Police operation in the “Refugees” of Alexandra

In recent months there has been a systematic and effective action by ELAS to clean up places that were centers and hotbeds of delinquency, the Minister of Citizen Protection pointed out – speaking to SKAI 100.3 – Takis Theodorikakos and he mentioned ELAS’ operation in Zografou’s Student Residence, in the Municipal Nursing Home of Larissa, but also the march to the Polytechnic where “not a leaf was moved”, as he characteristically said.

In this context, he noted that EL.AS. investigated the arson attack at the offices of Real Group and, moving with professionalism, completed the operation in “Refugees”. Mr. Theodorikakos emphasized that there is evidence for the alleged arsonist and that the police forces were attacked when they went to transport his car after his arrest. Of the 78, only 15 were residents, added the Minister of Citizen Protection. “The message is that there can be no tolerance for centers of iniquity and delinquency, there can be no innocents”Mr. Theodorikakos told Vassilis Chiotis and Notis Papadopoulos.

When asked about the “Ark of the World” he replied that “the Law applies to everyone and that even in this case anyone who has violated the Law will be brought to justice” and pointed out that since Monday morning the Economic Police has intervened on his order and conducts an extensive audit of this particular NGO.

Finally, answering a question about the “Human Rights 360” organization, he emphasized that he has apologized for the case of the 38 immigrants, which Mr. Tsipras has not done.

The main points of the interview of the Minister of Citizen Protection:

Occupied spaces are released

“In recent months there has been a systematic and effective action by the Police to clear buildings that are under occupation and which belong either to the public or to specific entities. Places that had turned into centers and hotbeds of delinquency. I will remind you of the operation of the Greek Police in the student residence of Zografou, where we arrested three criminal organizations who were drug dealers, robbers, criminals who had half the Criminal Code on them and were sleeping side by side with children, with students. So we freed the student residence of Zografou and gave it to the university community, mainly to our children, mainly to the children of people who, under other circumstances, would find it difficult for their children to study at a university in Athens as they come from the countryside. I remind you of the end of the occupation in Larissa where, with an operation by the Greek Police, the site of the Municipal Nursing Home was given to the Municipality”.

Citizens’ trust in the Police is strengthened

“Our main goal is to constantly strengthen citizens’ trust in the handling of the police and the State in general.

A few months ago we had an arson attack on the offices of Real news. The fact that the case went out of the limelight, for the Police, did not mean that it would go out of the light of its own investigations.

The case was cleared up. The alleged perpetrator in the case – there is also strong evidence – has been arrested and will be brought to justice.”

The operation in “Refugees”

“The police forces were challenged in the most cruel arrogant and cynical way. They received a shower of stones and did not react, because they had orders that the slightest thing should not happen to anyone. There have been 78 arrests. And I want to inform that there are 8 apartment buildings with 24 apartments in each apartment building, half of them belong to private individuals, some of whom are living and others have practically abandoned their apartments. There, however, the Police cannot intervene because half of the apartments belong to private individuals and the other half belong to the Attica Region. Therefore, because it is not a matter for the Police and the Ministry of Citizen Protection.

Therefore, the message of yesterday’s operation is that on the part of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, on the part of the state and the Greek Police, there can be no tolerance for centers of lawlessness and delinquency. There cannot be unoccupied anywhere, in any part of the Attica Basin, nor in the whole of Greece, one by one these spaces are released and given to those who legally belong to them. We are putting our own responsibility into practice, let the rest of the agencies also take the responsibility to put into practice what should be done”.

The Economic Police conducts a check on the “Ark of the World”

From the moment the public prosecutor ordered the Greek Police to investigate what was happening in this area, the police took statements, created a case file which was handed over to the Public Prosecutor. There is a strong message in this case. There are no first and second class citizens. There are no upper and lower tier citizens. We must all be equal before the law. The law applies to everyone.

Therefore, in this case too, whoever is the perpetrator and the culprit of any delinquent or criminal activity, if there has been one, will be found and brought to justice. So the Greek Police have completed one section and are awaiting further instructions from the investigative authority, from the Prosecutor. However, on Monday morning, by order of the Minister of Citizen Protection, the Economic Police intervened. It conducts a generalized criminal audit regarding the financial management in the “Ark of the World”.

The NGO apologized, SYRIZA did not

“There things in this particular case are clear. I don’t think that the issue is the NGO, the issue is the Official Opposition and its Leader personally. “Human Rights 360” was forced to apologize because it bears heavy responsibility for the incident, which happened there in July and August with 38 illegal immigrants on an islet and an alleged child dying.

We have been accused as a Government, but also personally by specific Ministers, of being almost traitors and murderers, while it has been amply proven that the island is on Turkish territory and no child has ever died. So then, this NGO finally apologized, but Mr. Tsipras and SYRIZA have not yet apologized for what they said in a sad, divisive and sharp and polarizing way in those days to form an opposition.”
