Cruise season is the biggest of the decade and goes from peace to party

by

Back on the route of shipping companies after the slowdown in cases of Covid-19, Brazil begins its cruise season, which extends until April 2023. The expectation is that this will be the largest in the last ten years, with 780 thousand beds offered and 176 days duration.

The data is from the Brazilian Association of Maritime Cruises (Clia), which forecasts a movement of R$ 3.8 billion and the generation of 48 thousand jobs with the demand for vessels in the high season.

“We should sell more than 850,000 tickets. This is a very good estimate, and the month of November has already demonstrated the positivity of these sales”, says Marco Ferraz, president of Clia.

During the surge in cases in the first wave of Covid-19, cruise ships faced the disease on the high seas. The vessels isolated the contaminated and extended the disembarkation dates. Clia carried out a study to measure passengers’ confidence in taking a new trip by ship.

According to Ferraz, 84% intend to travel again next year. Among those who have never taken cruises, 69% have the same intention. “This is a better number than the pre-pandemic, and it leads us to believe that people are feeling safe”, she evaluates.

The vaccine is no longer mandatory for shipments. However, Anvisa determined other security measures against the virus. If traveling for five nights or less, proof of recent vaccination or testing is required. For those traveling for six nights or more, only the test will be valid. Self-tests are not accepted.

This season, 14 vessels pass through Brazil and other countries in South America. See cruise details.
