The Minister of Health clarifies that the decision to suspend unvaccinated health workers was initially judged by the Plenary Session of the CoE as a constitutional measure. With the newest decision of the 3rd section of the CoE, issues of constitutionality are raised regarding the extension of the measure.

All necessary measures will be taken in order not to put public health at risk from the implementation of the decision of the Council of State, the Minister of Health assures in a statement Thanos Pleuris commenting on the Supreme Court decision on unvaccinated health workers.

The Minister of Health clarifies that the decision to suspend unvaccinated health workers is aimed at protecting the health of citizens and was initially judged by the Plenary of the CoE as a constitutional measure. With the latest decision of 2332/22 of the 3rd section of the CoE, issues of constitutionality are raised regarding the extension of the measure.

The statement of the Minister of Health

“The decision to suspend unvaccinated health workers is aimed at protecting the health of citizens and was initially judged by the Plenary of the CoE as a constitutional measure. With the latest decision of 2332/22 of the 3rd section of the CoE, issues of constitutionality are raised as towards the extension of the measure. We await the publication of the decision to assess it in its entirety. We assure the citizens that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that public health is not endangered by the implementation of the decision.”

Among others, the Supreme Court to which he had appealed the EVER ruled that the regulation in question to extend the mandatory vaccination of health workers until the end of the year (31.12.2022) is unconstitutional, because the competent services should have, as defined, reassessed the necessity of the measure.
