Speech by Sotiris Tsiodras to politicians: “Stop instrumentalizing science”

by

In the political controversy that arose after his research with Professor Lytras for the study of ICUs and pandemic mortality, Sotiris Tsiodras intervened and took his place.

Dealing with the pandemic requires a spirit of unity and solidarity as well as constant vigilance, said in a statement Sotiris Tsiodras, professor of Pathology-Infections at the Medical School of EKPA, chairman of the Public Health Committee and the Pandemic Committee of the Medical School and the Hellenic Society of Infections.

The statement of Sotiris Tsiodras in detail

“Dealing with the pandemic requires a spirit of unity and solidarity as well as constant vigilance.

The use of an older scientific analysis as a means of political controversy causes great sorrow to a scientist but also to an ordinary citizen. This publication confirms similar observations in previous epidemics, but also in the current pandemic worldwide. It focuses on the pressure in ICU beds, and the increased mortality caused by it, which is affected by multiple risk factors (eg old age, underlying diseases, severity of disease), continues today, and concerns the majority of our unvaccinated fellow citizens.

Recent analyzes by the scientific team of EODY have highlighted further benefits of vaccination against the new coronavirus. By early December, more than 15,000 lives had been saved by vaccination. For this reason, I would like to emphasize once again the importance of vaccination in dealing with the pandemic and the consequent reduction in stress on the health system.

Of particular importance at this stage is the third dose of the vaccine, as well as the observance of the other personal protection measures in view of the emergence of the micron variant of the virus.
