Tavros Project: A refugee apartment building is transformed into a model building that will generate its own energy

by

The Hellenic Passive Building Institute and its partners, Greenpeace and the Municipality of Moschatos Tavros, invite citizens to support this innovative project.

The Hellenic Passive Building Institute, in collaboration with Greenpeace and the Municipality of Moschatos-Tavros, is going to improve the quality of life of the residents of an old apartment building by implementing the second Passivistas pilot energy upgrade project, the Tavros project, and invites the public to support it . In the news platform crowdfunding, anyone can donate to the realization of the project, which opens new horizons in domestic energy saving, earning small gifts and important privileges.

The 8 families living in the old refugee building that will be upgraded are experiencing something familiar to all of us: very cold wet winters and unbearably hot summers. At the same time, they are burdened by the energy crisis, wasting large sums to air-condition their residence, but to no avail.

The Tavros Project it will bring families from the past… to the passive house, i.e. a zero emission building that will also generate its own energy! Technologies that are coming to Greece for the first time will be used, in order to be tested and introduced to the eligible materials in our country, while the entire apartment building will be used as a hub for education, information and innovation support.

“The campaign for our second most important project after Papagos is starting. At a time when concepts such as sustainability or the rational use of energy have lost their true meaning, at a time when citizens are desperately searching for cheap and efficient heating methods and live in conditions of absolute energy poverty and poor quality of life, we will prove that easily and methodically we can all live in better homes. We proved it once, we will prove it again now and with one more weapon at the given moment: much more experience but also stronger allies.” says the head of Passivistas and president of EIPAK, Stefanos Pallantzas.

“A proper energy transition starts with reducing our energy needs. When this is combined with a home in which you live comfortably, it is as if the path we must follow is bathed in light. May the state set an example by seeing ordinary people supporting each other and moving forward on their own and create the space to convert the building stock into passive housing. Until then we only have each other.” comments Sandy Familiari, Program Manager for Climate Change at Greenpeace’s Greek office.

“Carbon neutral cities are at stake in Greece and throughout Europe. But to get to the cities we have to start from the buildings, go to building blocks, go to the neighborhood by upgrading the buildings to passives, and then proceed to the cities. This is a gamble, it takes work but we are here and we will do it!” says the Mayor of Moschatos-Tavros, Andreas Efthimiou.
The best home is not the privilege of the few, it is the right of everyone and it is good for the planet too!

Donations will play an important role in the implementation of the project and those interested will enjoy a series of gifts and privileges.

From small souvenirs to advice on setting up energy communities and visits to the building with a “guide” who will explain why this is the home of the future. Society as a whole will benefit, since the Hellenic Passive Building Institute, Greenpeace and the Municipality of Moschato-Tavros aim to use this example as a model for the necessary upgrades, to reduce our environmental footprint and improve our standard of living.

Help Marios, Koulas, Kostas and the rest of the residents of Piraeus 211 to get the house they deserve and that will serve as an example for all of us! The best home is not the privilege of the few, it is the right of everyone and it is good for the planet too!
