Air Force: Cessna T-41D trainers retired after 53 years of service

The retirement ceremony will take place on Tuesday 20 December at the 360th Air Training Squadron (360MEA) of the Icaron School, at Decelia Air Base and will be open to the public

After 53 years of service in the Air Force and having completed more than 200,000 flight hours, the Cessna T-41D training aircraft of the 360th Air Training Squadron (360MEA) “Thalis”, of the Icaron School, are being retired.

On Tuesday, December 20, the retirement ceremony of the said aircraft will be held at the 360th Air Training Squadron (360MEA) of the Icaron School, at the Decelia air base.

The event will include a eulogy, reading of the 360 ​​MEA commander’s Daily Order, an aircraft flyover as well as a static display of aircraft.

The ceremony will be attended by active and retired Air Force personnel who have served in 360MEA.

The event is open to the public

As stated on the Air Force website, the T-41s are single-engine, propeller-driven training aircraft of the Air Force with which the initial training of new Icars takes place at Tatoi Airport.

They are of American origin and the first ones were manufactured in the mid-60s.

It is a military version of the civil aviation model Cessna R-172 from which it differs in the engine.

The Hellenic Air Force procured the T-41 in 1969. A total of 21 new aircraft were acquired through the MAR military assistance program. They have a two-tone variation of red and gray.
