Members of the Pan-Cretian Association of Greek Gypsies “Hope” staged a peaceful protest in Nea Halicarnassus
Holding Greek flags and with a central slogan “It wasn’t the petrol it wasn’t the money, the cops shot because they were Roma” members of the Pancretian Association of Greek Gypsies “Hope” they performed peaceful protest this afternoon in Nea Alikarnassos.
A large banner reading “And the lives of Greeks, Gypsies have value” was in front of the protesters with the latter making their indignation known with slogans against police brutality, while demanding justice for the recent shooting of a 16-year-old of their same sex in Thessaloniki.
“We condemn the acts of violence that have been committed throughout the country but we demand justice and justice is not the policeman being under house arrest. The message you are sending to society with this decision is wrong,” the president of the “Hope” Association, Thanasis Katsaris, told neakriti.gr.
During the protest the participants sang the Greek National Anthem in a sign of unity.
