The coastguard’s floating ambulance was in Corfu, however, due to the strong winds in the area, it was unable to sail to pick up the woman from Paxos
Tragic was the end for a 60-year-old woman with a stroke who had to be transferred urgently from Paxos to a hospital, however, due to the bad weather, her transport was difficult and as a result she breathed her last.
The coastguard’s floating ambulance was in Corfu, due to the strong winds in the area, however, it was unable to sail to pick up the woman from Paxos. According to epiruspost.gr, a private person with a tourist boat was the one who volunteered to transport the patient despite the very difficult weather conditions.
The boat accompanied by a doctor from the Health Center left Paxos at half past five in the afternoon. She succeeded and arrived in Plataria where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Hatzikosta Hospital which had been informed since noon.
However, the elderly woman ended up on the way and was taken to the Igoumenitsa Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
As mentioned by the people of the Paxos Health Center, the provision of services during the winter season is not a simple matter and the transports to Ioannina, on days when the weather may have turned rough, are extremely difficult.
