Sales of city cars, but also of larger cars, mainly SUVs, have increased recently in Greece, according to data from the Association of Car Dealers Importers (SEAA). So last month after a while, category B, the long-time favorite category, declined. However, it still has the first say, with a market share of 42.6% of total rankings in November from 51.7% in the corresponding month last year
Consumers who decided to head to the small category increased by 3.6%. City cars have attracted interest because their price remains low, they are flexible and they can move around the city with speed. After all, in recent times, traffic jams have brought to their limits all the drivers of the big cities.
An increase of 7.1% was recorded by consumers who chose a larger car (by 3.1% chose a car of category C and 4% of category D) claiming larger spaces, greater and better levels of passive and active safety, but fewer months of waiting.
In terms of their choices, gasoline-powered vehicles still occupy the first place, despite the fall of 1.5%. But there is a shift towards hybrid vehicles, which are growing steadily and manage to collect 25.8%. That is, about one in four cars is hybrid, thus showing the environmental awareness of the Greek public, but also the importance it gives to reducing operating costs.
The time horizon given by most European governments, as well as the Greek government, has greatly influenced the Greek buying public, which no longer chooses diesel vehicles. Only 16.6% of cars sold were diesel, in contrast to what was the case a few years ago, when it attracted the greatest interest of consumers.
It is worth mentioning the large increase in sales of LPG cars, rewarding the choice of a few car manufacturers to invest in this technology (4%). The international “rally” of oil and gasoline prices throughout the previous period played a big role in their final decision, as most of them wanted to reduce the daily transportation costs.
Finally, sales of electric and plug-in vehicles, which have some “electric” kilometers, continue to increase in sales. This percentage reaches 11.7% of total sales. All this when the charging infrastructure is still at a low level and it is the most important problem of all those who want to switch to electricity and do not decide why they do not have the appropriate infrastructure. The market share of the category in Greece since the beginning of the year is 6.5%, when the corresponding share in Europe is at 16.1%.
