Efforts by men of the 2nd and 8th EMAK and the fire service of Litochoro to retrieve a mountaineer who fell into a ravine on Olympus continue
The operation to retrieve the climber who was spotted yesterday afternoon in a ravine on Olympus, while he was with a friend at the base of Lukiou tou Mytikas at 2,700 meters, has been ongoing since early morning.
Members from the 2nd EMAK of Thessaloniki, the 8th EMAK of Larissa, officers of the Fire Service from Litochoro, members of the Hellenic Rescue Team and a Super Puma helicopter are attempting to retrieve the climber.
It is recalled that the climber he was found unconscious by his friend, who, however, was not able to approach him, as the spot is very steep.
The mountaineer who notified the authorities to rescue his friend, was taken to the “Apostolidis” shelter, where he spent the night.
Yesterday efforts to retrieve the climber were halted due to darkness and limited visibility.
