The consecration of the waters took place with all splendor, in the largest port of the country, Piraeus, preeminent of the Blessed Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Hieronymos.
In the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity of Piraeus, the Orthros, the Divine Liturgy and the Great Sanctification Procession for the Feast of the Epiphany, one of the greatest feasts of Christianity, were preceded in the morning and then the Sanctification of the Waters took place, on the wharf opposite the Church of Agios Spyridon Piraeus.
The Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy Yannis Plakiotakis said in a statement: “Today is a day of hope and enlightenment. 2023 can and should be the year that Greece will take steady steps on the road to the development of social support, of positive changes that improve life for every Greek woman and man. I wish a happy birthday, health and prosperity, to all and sundry, calm seas and good voyages to the Greek sailors”.
The governor of Attica, Giorgos Patoulis, wished: “Happy birthday to everyone, Theia Fotisi. Greece is moving forward, the Attica Region is moving forward, from the country’s largest port with the biggest and best prospects for 2023. Cheers.”
The mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, said: “Today in Piraeus, the central celebration of Epiphany in all of Greece was held in a brilliant ceremony, in the presence of political, religious and military leadership. Happy birthday to the Greeks, I wish the light of Epiphany to illuminate all of us in a difficult year so that we can have a better year than the previous one. Happy birthday to all Greeks and all Piraeus.”
Second Piraeus Member of Parliament of New Democracy Yiannis Tragakis said: “I would like to wish all of us a better year, an enlightened year today which is the Lights. Let’s all go together for the good of the country. Happy Birthday and well”.
