In communication of SKAI with the mayor of Western Lesvos, Mr. Taxiarchis Verros said there have been no reports of injuries or damages. Schools are closed
A new strong earthquake occurred a little while ago off the coast of Lesvos.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale and occurred at 9.38 am on Tuesday.
It had a focal depth of 12.4 km and the epicenter is located 5 km south-southeast of Mythimna.
The earthquake lasted and was accompanied by a loud roar that disturbed the residents even more, while due to the low focal depth, the vibration was felt throughout the island.
It is recalled that on January 7 an earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in Lesbos.
In SKAI’s communication with the mayor of Western Lesvos, Brigadier Verros said there have been no reports of injuries or damage.
“All the crews are out, but I still have no information about further damage, the stresses of the buildings that were already damaged by the previous earthquake are being checked,” said Mr. Verros.
He added that the schools have been closed since yesterday and did not function today either.
He added that in communication he had with presidents of mountain villages, they reported to him falling rocks.
