The Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, and the government representative, Giannis Oikonomou, ruled out the possibility of a partial or universal lockdown, as well as the resumption of SMS for travel, in today’s briefing on the new measures that will take effect tomorrow.
The two ministers were also categorical that the closure of schools is not being considered, however the change of the protocol is considered almost certain, with the prevailing scenario being the closure of a department with 50% + 1 of the cases.
In addition, no additional restrictions on retail are being considered so far and there is no suggestion from the Commission.
Regarding the package of measures that will take effect from tomorrow at 6 in the morning, the government notes that they aim to further shield the population against the Omicron mutation, and the longest possible delay of its operation in our country.
The first package of measures to be implemented immediately, which will be implemented until January 3, includes the mandatory use of a mask, which, as stated by the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, also applies to places of entertainment, restaurants, gyms and churches, meaning the strong recommendation use the mask to enter the space or move.
For supermarkets and Public Transport the measure concerns the use of a double mask or a mask of high protection N95.
With the resumption of the mandatory use of the mask, the administrative fine returns everywhere.
At the same time, the public festive events of the municipalities that were planned are prohibited, as well as private events in a public place. However, Christmas theme parks are excluded, which in any case can only be entered vaccinated with the necessary protection measures.
At the same time, the framework for travelers entering Greece is further tightened with a strong recommendation for a rapid test on the 2nd and 4th day after entering the country through all entry gates, in addition to the 72-hour molecular test or the rapid test of 24 hours.
