According to a report by SKAI, it is difficult to have a second agreement – What does Pancheri’s “deal” include

Developments about his corruption scandal are rampant Qatargate in Brussels. As announced earlier by the federal prosecutor’s office, Mr Pier Antonio Pancheri, the alleged Qatargate mastermind, signed a memorandum of cooperation with Belgian authorities. It is an undertaking whereby a penitent makes substantial, revealing, true and complete statements about the involvement of third parties and, if applicable, his/her own involvement in criminal offenses within the particular case.

It undertakes from now on to inform about everything and specifically about the mode of operation, the financial arrangements with other involved parties, the financial structures set up, the interested parties of the structures and the benefits offered, the participation of known and unknown people in the research, including the identity of the persons he admits to have bribed.

This memorandum even provides for a limited sentence for Pierre Pancheri. According to his own lawyer this includes a 5 year prison sentence suspended on the condition that he serves at least one year of the sentence either in prison or with an electronic wristband, a fine of 80,000 euros with 4/5 of that amount suspended and confiscation of all assets acquired and already seized which are currently estimated at one million euros.

What does Pancheri’s agreement mean for Eva Kaili – It is difficult to have a second agreement, say prosecution sources

According to information and the former vice-president of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili he had been pressured enough in the previous days to confess. However, this did not happen. According to sources at the prosecution, it is not easy to sign a similar memorandum like that of Panzeri with the Belgian authorities, so she and her partner and collaborator of Panzeri, Francesco Giorgi, are probably “burning”.

For Ms. Kaili, it remains to be seen if she will continue in the same line of defense that she is innocent and that her partner and Antonio Pantzeri were to blame for everything.

The former vice-president of the European Parliament will appear before the pre-trial council on Thursday to decide whether her pre-trial detention will be extended or if she will be released.

Corriere della Sera: Pancheri admitted to paying over 100,000 euros to Tarabella

According to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Serao Antonio Panzeri in his interrogations by Belgian prosecutors about the “Qatargate” scandal, “allegedly stated that he paid between 120 and 140 thousand euros to Belgian MEP Marc Tarabellain various installments, during the period in which, in his group, in the European Parliament, the debate was ongoing on the position to be taken to respect the rights of the workers employed on the projects for the Qatar International Football Championship».

This admission was allegedly made in an interrogation held on December 10, 2022.

The Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Oreat the same time, adds that Pancheri “allegedly urged the prosecutors to ascertain the position of the MEP of the Italian centre-left Democratic Party, Andrea Coccolino, but without mentioning payment of money”.
