Mother Alki: Life sentences should be life sentences, for the rest of their lives in prison

Trial adjourned – The bench decides when the proceedings will continue

The trial of the 12 defendants for the murderous attack against Alkis Kampanos began before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki after a few days of interruption.

The interruption was decided to be granted following a relevant request of the defense lawyers who invoked obstacles, connected to their obligations to another (higher) Court.

The judges stopped the proceedings in order to decide on the day of the next trial. Earlier, the process of legalization of the lawyers took place and the list of the 26 witnesses of the indictment was announced.

The defendants arrived around 7:30 in the morning, under strong security measures, at the Courts of Thessaloniki and two hours later they entered, one after the other, the suffocatingly full courtroom.

The parents of 19-year-old Alki, who are present as civil plaintiffs, made brief statements outside the Courts.

“Lifers should really be lifers, forever in prison, all their lives,” his mother said, adding: “Justice knows.”

His father, when asked about the start of the trial, said: “I have said everything I had to say, now the Justice will speak.”

Outside the Courts, a small portion of Aris fans, a team supported by Alkis Kampanos, gathered and shouted slogans in memory of the 19-year-old.

The police presence inside and outside the courts was strong but discreet.
