According to the deputy mayor for the environment, the Municipality of Thessaloniki will file the relevant lawsuit against unknown persons tomorrow, at the Thessaloniki security department.
The Thessaloniki zoo will remain closed until Monday, January 23, after the damage caused by unknown people, in their attempt to steal copper cables.
As the deputy mayor for the environment of the municipality of Thessaloniki, Erotokritos Theotokatos, told GRTimes, the unknown perpetrators, in their attempt to remove the cables from wells with electrical equipment, caused a short circuit, as a result of which at some point the electrical panel in the natural history museum, which is located inside, burned down at the zoo.
According to Mr. Theotokatos, due to the short circuit there was a risk of a fire breaking out inside the museum and by extension in the garden and the forest, while it is very possible that one of the perpetrators was electrocuted and injured.
The police were informed about the incident and are conducting investigations to identify the perpetrators, while the process of assessing the damages is also ongoing.
