The incident became known at the beginning of the week when volunteers of the Animal Welfare Association of the municipality of Pinios, led by the president, Dimitris Athanasoulis, were called to deal with an unprecedented atrocity caused by someone or some people in the area of Bartholomew, killing fourteen stray animals with poisoned food.
The volunteers were obviously shocked, they could not believe the picture they were seeing, while out of the sixteen total animals that ate the poison, only two dogs managed to escape out of five. Tragic account of six dogs and eight cats dying helplessly on the street.
“We denounce and condemn as a Municipal Authority such horrific behavior and criminal actions, as well as any act of violence against small stray dogs in the area of Bartholomew.
The care of stray animals by the Municipality of Pinios is a given. To stop the unconscious abandonment of four-legged companion animals on the streets and above all their illegal and inhumane killing. No abuse or killing of an animal can and should not go unpunished”, the deputy mayor of Finance – responsible for the management of strays of the municipality of Pinios, Nikos Georgopoulos, said characteristically about the incident.
The unprecedented atrocity against the defenseless animals has provoked the anger of the residents, who demand the immediate identification and exemplary punishment of the person responsible for the crime.
