“Apology is one thing and forgiveness is another. Let them ask God for forgiveness” said the father of the 19-year-old, without turning to look at the 12 accused

The father of Alkis Kampanos spoke of a pre-planned, organized and cold-blooded crime in his testimony before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, which opened the cycle of examining witnesses in the trial for the murderous attack, with fan motives, against the 19-year-old student , in the early hours of February 1, 2022.

Invoking his status as a former soldier and referring to the manner in which the twelve defendants acted, Aristides Kampanos used expressions such as “unorthodox warfare operation“, “phalanx” and “radio silence».

They wanted to kill“, said Aristides Kampanos, underlining that along with the life of Alkis, they destroyed the life of his entire family.

Emotionally charged, the witness referred to the last words of Alkis, when the unfortunate first-year student begged the defendants and shouted “don’t hit me anymore”, characteristically noting: “I don’t know what the human psyche is like and how we got to this point”.

He also stated that he has never been to the scene of the murder, while regarding the apology requested by some of the accused, Aristidis Kampanos emphasized: “Apology is one thing and forgiveness is another. Let them ask God for forgiveness».

Describing his son’s character, the witness said he was a quiet, calm child who never made a fuss or caused any trouble. “We received favorable comments about the quality of his character,” he testified, revealing that the 19-year-old was his spiritual father.

“It may sound ironic. He was my spiritual father, the voice of conscience,” he said and explained: “As a soldier, I was confused and angry. There were not a few times when he advised me to be friendly to people, not to get confused, not to get angry.”

Answering a question from the district attorney about whether his son was a fan, Aristides Kampanos testified: “He was a simple fan of Aris, he loved Aris. Question that he had been on the field five times. He did not belong to any association.”

Without even turning to look at the 12 accused during his testimony, the witness, in his opening statement, referred to the last communication he had with his son, saying the following:

“Our last communication was on January 31, at 8.15 in the evening. I tried to contact via app and he said he was in the student club and would be back to continue reading as he was writing the next day’s class. From what he was informed, he went out for a walk with his friends in Harilaou. My brother contacted me by phone to tell me about the incident.”
