The owners of a business of emptying – cleaning cesspools, blocking wells and other hydraulic installations turned the fields into a cesspool in Diavata
A lawsuit was filed against a man and wife, a 70-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife, in Thessaloniki, for violating the Law regarding the protection of the environment.
After an investigation by the police officers of the Environmental Protection Department of the Security Directorate, the two perpetrators were identified in relation to a case of environmental pollution and waste disposal in plots of land in the area of ​​Diavata.
As it turned out, the 65-year-old owner of a business of emptying – cleaning manholes, blocking wells and other hydraulic installations as well as transporting other liquids or gases by tankers, together with her husband, were carrying out uncontrolled discharges of large quantities of liquid waste in a viscous form in fields.
During the autopsy carried out, in the presence of a competent employee of the Department of Environment and Water Economy of the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki of the Region of Central Macedonia, it was found that in the yard of the business there were metal pipes that were connected to a tanker and ended up in an adjacent field, where there were large quantities of mud, which came from from liquid waste disposals.
In addition, there were underground wells in many places of the facility with pipes suitable for connecting to tankers where discarded waste ended up, as well as throughout the plot there were discarded metal objects, barrels, abandoned vehicles, etc., creating a dirty situation.
The result of the aforementioned actions was the degradation of the environment in the wider area, resulting in the disturbance of the ecological balance and the degradation of the lives of the inhabitants.
The case file will be submitted to the competent prosecutor.
